When and where is Little Aths Run?

Altona Little Athletics is conducted at the  JK Grant Reserve, off Sugargum drive, Altona. ALAC has a grass track with a separate sprint track, pavilion, jump pits etc. Click here for map.

How can I join, what is the cost and what age group am I in?

Athletes can join any Saturday morning throughout the season. The cost is $50 per athlete/season and $3 per week which $1 of the $3 goes to your club. The cost covers insurance, awards, equipment, rent, first aid, general bills and lots more. Athletes are in age groups based on their age after the first of October. For example if a child turns 12 on the 5th of October they will be in the under 12s but if they  turn 12 on the 5th of September they will be in under 13s.

What clubs can I join?                                                                                                      Back to top

There are 6 clubs at the Altona Centre: Altona, Altona Meadows/Laverton, Altona North, Seaholme, St Marys, and Westona. Each club has a school allocation however there are no hard & fast rules as to which club you may join.

What are the events which athletes compete in?

Little Athletics is a modified version of Athletics therefore not all events are competed in. As athletes progress through the age groups they compete in more events. Most events are offered. It is only the more difficult that aren't (steeple chase, hammer throw, pole vault, marathon etc.) Here is a copy of the timetable and the events athletes compete in. Girls timetable. Boys timetable.

Can I represent my centre in any region or state events?

Yes athletes can represent ALAC at region or state track and field events or region and state relay events.

When does the season start and finish?                                                                   Back to top

The first week of competition starts an 10/9/05 and the last week of competition is on 25/2/06. However there is still state track and field on the 4/3/05. Cross country season also runs during the winters. Click here for more information about cross country and click here for the season calendar.

Is help required?

Events are run with  help from parents. Events must be ran on time and correctly. Therefore parents are expected to help out at events at least once a month  Chief officials are at each event to educate & support parents.  Parents are required to remain at the venue for the duration of the program. Whilst parents are helping out at events they are covered by insurance. Click here for event information.

Can any child join Little Aths?                                                                                      Back to top

Yes any child from the age of 5 to 15 can join Little Aths. Little Aths is a fun way to learn and compete with other athletes. Athletes with disabilities are also strongly encouraged to join as ALAC can cater for anyone! If a special program is needed for an athlete parents are welcome to discuss  this with centre executive.

Safety Issues

First aid is provided at the centre by qualified personnel.  Parents/guardians are required to advise the centre if their child has any pre-existing health problems or disabilities.  All registered athletes are covered by insurance whilst competing  in events.

How are results recorded?

Results are recorded through a sophisticated computer program and issued every two weeks. The result ticket  also tells the athlete if they have received a P.B in an event. Results are also posted at the pavilion and on ALAC new website starting from week one.
